EMPIRE MAGAZINE
![Picture](/uploads/1/3/6/3/13639830/2184838.jpg?247)
COLOURS
The colours in this front cover are bright and the viewer is immediately attracted. The colours of Iron Man's suit are bright and contrast with the darker colours throughout the rest of the cover. The black and dark blue background make the red and gold of his suit stand out vividly and the bright glow of his 'heart' matches the colour and glow of the title of the magazine. This gives the front cover an attractive symmetry, as people are more likely to pick up a magazine with matching elements such as this. All of the writing is in white and blue, which further corresponds with the background of the cover, and therefore makes Iron Man stand out.
PICTURES
The main image is of Iron Man which makes it obvious that the main article is going to be about the new movie. Iron Man is placed in front of the title of the magazine, but is behind the heading of the main article 'IRON MAN 2 - NEW SUIT, NEW ENEMIES, SAME ATTITUDE.' This gives the image different stages of overlap, making it more attractive to the viewer. There are 3 smaller thumbnail pictures underneath the sub-heading 'PLUS! THREE AMAZING EXCLUSIVES'.
TEXT
All of the text on this magazine cover match in colour - white and blue are the most dominant, with black appearing twice throughout the cover. The title of the magazine -'EMPIRE'- has kept the typical font of past covers, but has been made to look like lightening is striking from the points of the letters. This relates to the concept of Iron Man 2 as a film, as it is well known that the film is based around energy and electricity, which is powered by the glowing 'heart' at the centre of the suit. The glowing 'heart', the title of the magazine and some areas of writing are the same colour, which brings continuity to the cover as a whole.

Premiere magazine
![Picture](/uploads/1/3/6/3/13639830/4842588.jpg?249)
COLOURS
The colours in this front cover are ordinary every day colours and complement each other so as to draw attention to the main title and headlines, as well as other information on the page. Most of the writing is either orange or yellow, which is unusual to see on the front cover of a magazine, as the writing is usually either black or white, or other darker/lighter colours such as blue or red. The orange and yellow writing, however, works well as it stands out against the blue shirt of Steve Carell, whose name is in yellow. The most prominant source of writing, however, is the title of the magazine -'PREMIERE'- which is a bold black. This contrasts with the orange of the writing above it -'THE COMEDY ISSUE!'- which makes it easy for the viewer to find this particular magazine.
PICTURES
The only image on the whole front cover of this magazine is of Steve Carell, a famous and popular actor. His blue shirt stands out in stark contrast with the rest of the cover, as the background is white and the writing is orange and yellow, making the blue noticable and bold. He has a fishing hook in his mouth, which seems a bit odd to the viewer at first, but then we notice the heading under his face -'HOOKED ON STEVE CARELL'- which directly links the two main areas of the magazine; the writing and the image. This element could have a comical effect on the audience, as it is a pun.
TEXT
As mentioned before, the main text on this front cover is either yellow or orange, which brings a light-hearted mood to the viewer. The mention of the magazine being a 'comedy issue', reinforces this feeling, and makes the viewer wants to read on. The smaller writing under the main heading -'HOOKED ON STEVE CARELL'- is hard to read from here, but I can hazard a guess that other features in the magazine are mentioned here. The pattern of the writing -yellow, orange, yellow, orange etc- makes it easy for the reader to read and distinguish where one feature stops and another starts.

TOTAL FILM MAGAZINE
![Picture](/uploads/1/3/6/3/13639830/686151.jpg?249)
COLOURS
The colours in this front cover are quite dark and intimidating, which can relate to the attitude and characteristics of the character of Thor. This element brings a sense of familiarity to fans of this particular character, as he was a comic book favourite and a popular figurine. The colours on this cover consist of mainly black, white and red, which match Thor's uniform. The red banners that appear from the sides of the cover contrast against the black background, and the white writing in these banners contrasts with the red.The name of the issue -'THE MARVEL MOVIE ISSUE!'-, the magainst title 'TOTAL FILM'-, the name or sub-heading of the main feature -'THOR'- and the smaller sub-headings of other feature articles at the bottom of the page are all in bold white, which makes them solid and bold against the dark background.
PICTURES
The only image on the whole cover is of the character of Thor, who is standing in a defensive way - both hands are clenched either around his hammer or into a fist, his body is straight and he is looking down with an angry look on his face. The picture as a whole is quite strong, which shows that the character is strong. The hammer is giving off lightning, which joins with the bright white of the FILM part of the title. There is lightning around the title and behind Thor which can show that he has a similar effect as his character.
TEXT
The vast majority of the text is white, which immediately separates it from the dark background. The text varies in degrees of boldness; main headings and the magazine title itself is bold which draws the viewer into reading the smaller print. The text is mainly the same font throughout this cover, but again varies in boldness and size. The white writing in the red banners draws the viewers attention to the other features that are in this magazine. The style of writing isn't formal, which makes me believe this magazine is for a young audience - possibly 15+.
